Will I get hurt?

As in many other sports, injuries in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are always a possibility. Consult your physician before starting any exercise or sports program. A proper medical evaluation can spot potential problems and correct weaknesses that may be worsened by starting a sports program. A good instructor will create a learning environment that will minimize injuries. Train with people of similar size and avoid partners with big egos. Also, keep your own ego in check. What equipment do I need?

You will need a martial art uniform called a Gi or Kimono. It is composed of a jacket, pants and a belt. Gis can be purchased online or at specialty Martial Arts stores.
